According to the director of the international airport in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, the closure of this airport by the Saudi Arabia-led war coalition has led to the death of more than 80,000 Yemenis.
“The suffering of the Yemeni people has increased for four and a half years due to the closure of Sanaa airport,” Khalid al-Sharif said on Sunday, lamenting that the international community has stood idly by and watched this situation.
“With the ongoing war and the deteriorating health situation caused by the siege of Yemen by the Saudi coalition, more than 450,000 patients have to be taken abroad for treatment,” the director of Sanaa airport said.
The international airport in the Yemeni capital has been closed since 2016 because of the air blockade imposed by the Saudi army.
Backed by the United States, the United Arab Emirates and several other countries, Saudi Arabia launched a military invasion of Yemen in March 2015 and imposed a land, sea and air blockade on the country. As a result, tens of thousands of people in that country have died or been injured.
