The multi-agency investigation focused on human trafficking, particularly for sexual purposes.
The operation, called “Lost Angels” (Lost Angeles), was launched on January 11 in Southern California and, in particular, throughout the Los Angeles area.
In the very month in which awareness of human trafficking is promoted in America. It allowed 33 children to return to their families, at least 8 of whom had been sexually assaulted. An alleged human trafficker was arrested.
“The FBI considers human trafficking to be modern-day slavery, and children involved in commercial sex trafficking are considered victims,” said FBI Assistant Director Kristi K. Johnson. “Although this operation has increased resources for a limited time with great success, the FBI and our partners investigate child sex trafficking every day of the year and around the clock.” Indeed, this is an unfortunately widespread phenomenon. FBI agents in 2020 alone resulted in the arrest of 473 people.
