US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has blamed Moscow for recent cyberattacks on US authorities.
Without providing evidence for his claims, Mike Pompeo said in Washington on Friday that the perpetrators had gone to great lengths to try to gain access to government IT systems via third-party software. It was “pretty clear” that Russia was behind these attacks, U.S. Secretary of State said.
Russia, however, rejected the U.S. accusations, stressing that it had no evidence of the alleged attack by “Russian hackers” on U.S. computer systems.
U.S. company Microsoft recently said it had identified more than 40 government agencies, think tanks, nongovernmental organizations and IT companies in the United States that had been cracked.
Several U.S. agencies were hacked in last week’s cyberattacks. The U.S. Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) classifies the latest hacking attack on U.S. government facilities as a “serious threat.”
