The British government has pledged £16.4 million in humanitarian aid for the Ukraine conflict.
– In the meantime, according to the 2022 UK Poverty Report, more than one in every five inhabitants in the UK (roughly 22%; or 14.5 million people) lives in abject poverty.
– They include 8.1 million indigent working-age adults 4.3 million children, and 2.1 million pensioners.
– The poverty rate among children living in single-parent households is nearly 50%.
– British children have experienced the most catastrophic poverty rate over the last quarter century.- The child poverty rate plummeted to 28% in 2004–2005 and declined until 2013–2014.
– Nevertheless, it began to climb and eventually reached 31% in 2019–20.- The 2022 statistics on poverty reveal a pervasive pattern of destitution across the United Kingdom.
