ANKARA-In the next two months, Turkey will fully unveil the design of the Hurjet, the domestically developed advanced jet trainer, also the country’s light attack aircraft.

The manufacturing company, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), aims to build two aircraft every month after 2025, according to TAI chief Temel Kotil, who said Jan. 17 that four prototypes will first be built for flight testing.

“We aim to build six to seven aircraft in the first year in the mass production phase and produce two aircraft per month and 24 aircraft per year starting next year,” Kotil explained, adding that after 2025, two Hurjets will leave the hangar every month to be delivered to customers.

On Jan. 12, the Turkish Defense Industry Executive Committee approved the first phase of mass production of the Hurjet, an aircraft that will be equipped with an advanced mission computer in the cockpit, along with superior radar and sensitive attack systems and air and ground communication capabilities that reduce threat risks. The Hurjet will be 13.4 meters long, with a wingspan of 11 meters and will provide environmental security in offensive operations. The main objective of the project is to replace the Turkish Air Force’s T-38 trainer aircraft fleet of 70 aircraft and meet the needs of potential international customers. The advanced jet’s maximum altitude is 45,000 feet (14 km), along with its 3,000 kg payload and a top speed of Mach 1.2.
