The governor’s office of the southern province of Mersin said that on January 19, a “controlled explosion” occurred at the construction site of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which is under construction and damaged nearby houses and greenhouses.
There is no word yet on any casualties A team from the police force has been assigned to investigate the explosion. “An investigation will be launched immediately in all aspects and the necessary procedures will be taken against those responsible,” reads the statement of the governor, who continues: “the damages of citizens will be compensated.”
The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is a future Turkish nuclear power plant located near the city of Büyükeceli in the southern Turkish province of Mersin.
