The most important thing for us is the withdrawal of US forces from our land. Syria will not give up its sovereignty, said Buzaina Shaaban, media and political adviser to the Syrian Presidency.
In an interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al-Mayadeen , published yesterday, Shaaban referred to statements made in November by James Jeffrey and the US envoy for Syria, who reiterated that Washington will not change its policy towards Damascus, whoever wins elections in the North American country . In this regard, the Syrian official downplayed Jeffrey’s comments. “We do not expect much from the new American administration,” he added, denouncing that the West Asian region has been the victim of the devastating policies of both Democrats and Republicans. “How can Washington violate the UN resolutions on Syria, occupy their land and plunder their oil?” is the question Shaaban asked, recalling the sanctions imposed by the West, with the US leading the way, on the Syrian people. After the liberation of most of Syria from the terrorists, , the war has continued, moving from the military to the economic battlefield; however, she stressed, Damascus, which enjoys the support of its allies, including Russia, has taken steps to counter the sanctions and pave the way for reconstruction. Syria calls Washington’s sanctions “inhumane and immoral” , but promises to address this crisis with the same strategy with which it managed to free most of the country from the clutches of terrorist groups. On the other hand, the spokeswoman of the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, stressed that no one can decide for Damascus on its relations with Iran, a country that has supported Syria in its fight against the scourge of terrorism.
