Bashar Jaafari, Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Syria’s permanent delegate to the UN, said his country “relies on the valuable support of the Group of 77 plus China to end the plunder of its natural resources and foreign occupation of its territory.
During the first meeting in 2021 of the G77 + China held at the ambassadorial level and chaired by the Republic of Guinea, the Syrian ambassador said that “the challenges facing our world today are enormous and that in a short period of time, the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and has also shown the fragility of the world and its interconnectedness.” “Multilateral cooperation is always the best way to overcome all global challenges, and unfortunately some governments still prefer the path of unilateralism, including the imposition of unilateral and illegal coercive measures against some countries,” the diplomat recalled. He added that currently we need more solidarity, cooperation and collective action to implement the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, away from unilateralism and politicization. According to Jaafari, this group must be preserved by all possible means because since it was created, solidarity among its members has always been the key to its success and countries have been allowed to defend their interests.
