According to Sky News, today in conjunction with the start of Sadr supporters’ rallies in Baghdad, three people were injured by gunfire.
Al-Sumaria News also reported that several Sadr movement supporters were suffocated due to tear gas inhalation during today’s rallies. Some unofficial Iraqi sources also announced that two people died as a result of gunfire by unknown persons during gatherings in Baghdad’s Green Zone. At noon today, Moqtada Sadr announced by issuing a statement that he had said goodbye to the world of politics and would close all offices associated with him, with the exception of the shrine, museum, and Sadr Family Heritage Institute.Following the release of this statement, Iraq’s Green Zone witnessed an increase in tension and movements by Moqtada Sadr supporters and the tightening of security measures. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi also ordered all security forces in Baghdad to be on full alert.
