Pentagon spokesman John Kirby acknowledged that a humanitarian catastrophe was unfolding in Yemen, without mentioning Washington’s statements to the Saudi coalition in Yemen.
“U.S. President Joe Biden wants the United States to reconsider its support for Saudi military operations in Yemen,” the Pentagon spokesman told Al Jazeera.
The Pentagon spokesman’s remarks come as the U.S. has been a key supporter of the Saudi coalition in the Yemen war.
Saudi Arabia, with the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates and many other countries, has launched a military offensive in Yemen since March 2015 and imposed a land, sea and air blockade on the country.
The outbreak of war by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen has so far killed more than 16,000 Yemenis, wounded tens of thousands, and displaced millions of Yemenis.
