The suspension of the sale of F-35 fighter aircraft to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia has sparked a wave of concern in Tel Aviv. He fears that this decision could undermine the process of normalization of relations with Arab countries.
The White House has decided to suspend the sale of F-35 fighter jets to the UAE and the sale of military equipment to Saudi Arabia provided for in the agreements signed under the mandate of former U.S. President Donald Trump, says the Zionist newspaper Yedioth Aharonoth, which also wonders why the Israeli Prime Minister is not among the leaders with whom the new U.S. president has spoken since taking office.
The major contracts were signed in conjunction with the normalization of relations between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv without the knowledge of the Israeli security services, had revealed the newspaper in August when Netanyahu had denied the news but Trump confirmed it a few days later.
The Trump era agreements have drawn strong criticism from Democrats, particularly for human rights violations in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia’s use of American weapons to wage war on Yemen. Any agreement reached under the Trump administration will be reviewed, so it is likely that stealth hunters will not reach the UAE until 2027, the paper said.
Indeed, Joe Biden is said to have left Netanyahu to his fate, explaining that as elections in the occupied territories approach, U.S. officials do not intend to come to the rescue of Benyamin Netanyahu, who is at the center of a court case and is blocking a return to the Iranian nuclear deal.
Noting the recent meeting between the new U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi on normalization and the “Iranian” threat, Yedioth Ahronoth also suggests that Biden is acting in a traditional manner while waiting for Netanyahu to call him first.
Blinken and Ashkenazi discussed, among other things, the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal. This is the first public statement of the new US administration on the subject.
