It was naive to think that the new White House tenant, Jo Biden, would turn his back on Saudi Arabia after the CIA report on the Kashoggi murder.
The Saudi kingdom is increasingly at the mercy of the missiles and drones of Yemen’s Houthi guerrillas, which is why old Uncle Joe comes to the rescue and reminds the world that the despotic Al Saud monarchy is its ally of choice in West Asia.
The United States will look for ways to improve its support for Saudi Arabia to defend itself against attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki reminded a press conference yesterday.
“We know they face real security threats from Yemen and others in the region,” Psaki said. “We will look for ways to improve support for Saudi Arabia’s ability to defend its territory against threats.”
Psaki noted that the United States is alarmed by the frequency of Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. “The attacks are unacceptable and dangerous,” Psaki so called them.
Psaki reiterated that the United States continues to work closely with the Saudi government given the threat the country faces frequently from such attacks.
The White House spokeswoman forgot how much death and destruction the Saudis have instead brought in their war of aggression on Yemen since 2015: 100,000 deaths in addition to incalculable damage to civilian infrastructure, artistic heritage.
