Six migrants have drowned and 30 others are missing after their boat sank off the Tunisian coast while trying to reach Europe.
This was reported by local authorities and the Red Crescent. Another 34 migrants were rescued by coast guard units after the boat sank off Zarzis near the Libyan border, Tunisian Defense Ministry spokesman Mohamed Zekri said. According to survivors’ accounts, there were 70 people on the boat, including Egyptians, Sudanese and a Moroccan, when it set sail from Libya. A search operation is still underway for the missing. The survivors were taken to a port in Ben Guerdane, according to Tunisian Red Crescent official Mongi Slim.
