The President of Venezuela questions the pronouncements on the assault to the US Capitol, by recalling justifications to similar events in other countries.
“How in the United States it is sedition, hate and violence, but in Venezuela they are protests of the civil society, they are heroes of the civil society”, has inquired the Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro, during a speech delivered this Sunday in the Miraflores Palace (presidential seat).
In reference to the measure of Twitter to suspend the account of the outgoing US President, Donald Trump, for incitement to hatred and promotion of violence, he has criticized that this social network does not do the same when in Venezuela there have been riots and attempts of coups d’état. “Guaidó, Leopoldo López and the coup plotters are not suspended. Double morals, double standards”, the President has lashed out.
In another part of his speech, the Venezuelan Head of State has pointed out that Trump’s main objective during the four years in the White House has been to attack Venezuela, “destroy” the country and assassinate its president.
He went on to express his hope that, now that “in the U.S. they are discovering that [Trump] is a mafioso and a racist,” the documents where the U.S. tycoon gave the order to kill Maduro will also be revealed.
In the United States, Maduro has indicated, “they are taking a little bit of their own medicine,” because similar situations have been promoted by the United States against Venezuela. “But here we are the victors of hate, evil and Donald Trump,” he added.
It all started on Wednesday, January 6, with a call by the still president for his supporters to gather near the White House. At the rally, Trump asked participants to head to the Capitol to stop a joint session in which legislators wanted to certify Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the November 3 election.
