The speaker of Lebanon’s parliament has stressed the need to form a government in the country as soon as possible.
According to Al-Ahd, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said in a speech on Saturday that the situation in Lebanon would deteriorate if no thought is given to forming a new cabinet.
Berri added that the new Lebanese cabinet should be based on consultations between President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.
Following the resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab on Aug. 4, Mustafa Adib was tasked with forming the government, but Adib announced last September that he could not form a cabinet due to sabotage.
With Adib’s resignation, Saad al-Hariri was tasked with forming a government last October, but he also has not yet been able to assemble a new cabinet.
The Corona pandemic and the severe double explosion early last August further exacerbated the situation in Lebanon. Demonstrators called for fundamental political reforms during mass protests.
The rift between Aoun and Hariri has widened since December over disagreements on the formation of a cabinet.
