on October 2, 2018 in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, was arrested at the Parisian airport of Roissy. This was reported by sources close to the dossier. A new hearing was held in Istanbul in the trial for the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi…
in which 26 Saudis accused of playing a role in the reporter’s murder are being tried in absentia. In today’s hearing, the judges requested that the Turkish Ministry of Justice ask Riyadh for the names of those who have already been convicted in a trial over the journalist’s murder held in Saudi Arabia so that they do not receive a new sentence. As a result, the trial was adjourned until February 24. “Everyone knows that the trial will be symbolic until the defendants are captured and brought to Turkey,” said Reporters Without Borders (Rsf) Turkish representative Erol Onderoglu, calling the case “now deadlocked” and calling for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (Mbs) to be included in the list of suspects. Khashoggi had openly criticized Mbs and a U.S. intelligence report claims that the Saudi crown prince approved an operation to capture or kill the journalist in Istanbul. On October 2, 2018, Khashoggi had traveled to the Riyadh Consulate in Istanbul to obtain the necessary documents to marry his Turkish fiancée Hatice Cengiz. The journalist never left the building and Turkish officials believe he was hacked to pieces inside the consular mission even though the remains of the body have never been found. The murder was strongly criticized by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who cut ties with Saudi Arabia. Recently the Turkish leader has not come back to comment on the case in parallel with diplomatic attempts of rapprochement between Ankara and Riyadh.
