AL QUDS – The so-called Israeli High Court of Justice has rejected a petition for the release of Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, who has been on strike …
hunger strike for nearly six months against his continued administrative detention without charge without trial. His lawyer says Khalil is in danger of a “sudden death.”
“We can only hope that the detainee can stop the hunger strike,” the court says in its ruling released Tuesday. According to CCTV, the court also assured that the detainee continues to receive “necessary medical treatment.”
Awawdeh, 40, a father of four daughters, was arrested by the Israeli army from his home in Ithna, in the occupied southern West Bank, in December 2021 and held under so-called Israeli “administrative detention.”
He is one of about 670 Palestinians in Israeli jails held under Israeli policy, which allows indefinite detention without trial or charge on the basis of “secret evidence” that neither the detainees nor their lawyers can see.
