Iran’s Foreign Ministry has once again criticized the United States for its “cowardly act of terrorism” against legendary Iranian Supreme Leader Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani and promised to prosecute those guilty of his assassination.
In a tweet on Friday marking the first anniversary of General Soleimani’s assassination near the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the ministry said Washington’s terrorist attack was carried out in flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and Iraq’s sovereignty.
Stressing that U.S. actions in violation of the law are in full swing, the ministry said, “Iran will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.”
January 3 marks the first anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Brigade of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. He was admired as the most powerful counterterrorism commander in the Middle East with a unique charisma.
He was Iran’s top military adviser who helped Iraq and Syria defeat foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists, mainly IS.
In a phone call with President of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zidan on Tuesday, Iranian Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi said those involved in the assassination of General Soleimani will be rightly punished without discrimination.
