The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) said they have launched operations against the remnants of the IS terrorist militia in the northern Iraqi province of “Ninawa.”
In this regard, the Hashd al-Shaabi intelligence website said in a statement that the security and intelligence operation had begun on Al-Hadr Island in the west of Ninawa province between the Iraqi and Syrian borders.
According to the report, the 25th and 44th brigades of the Popular Mobilization Forces, with the support of the 1st battalion in ” Moqateleh al-Dru-a” division, succeeded in identifying and destroying many training centers and hideouts of the IS terrorist group in western Algeria up to the Syrian border.
The remnants of the IS terrorist group have carried out sporadic attacks in the north, west and east of the Iraqi capital in recent months.
Despite the defeat of the IS terrorist group in Iraq, some members of this terrorist militia are still present in different parts of the country and carry out sporadic terrorist attacks.
Although the IS has lost 99 percent of its former territory, the terrorist militia has been waging a guerrilla war in the country ever since. IS cells are still active, especially in the north and east of Iraq.
