The head of the political office of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), Ismail Haniya, called on the leaders of some countries, including Iran, to support efforts to achieve national unity in Palestine.
According to the HAMAS website, Ismail Haniya sent letters to the United Nations and the leaders of Iran, Jordan, Switzerland and South Africa explaining the movement’s position on efforts to create national unity in Palestine and the holding of general elections.
Last week, Haniya also insisted on HAMAS’ determination to achieve national reconciliation in Palestine and reach an agreement to confront the Israeli occupying regime and the liberation of Palestine.
The Arab media report that the head of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, will issue in the next few days the decree for the holding of elections, and the elections will be held in mid-May 2021.
Last September, the representatives of the Palestinian groups of Al-Fatah and HAMAS started their talks in Istanbul, Turkey, to accelerate the process of reconciliation.
