United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says that every day hundreds of millions of people go to bed hungry, three billion people cannot nurtsicono healthy while two billion are obese and yet 462 million are underweight globally.
Guterres delivered a speech at the opening of the United Nations fVertice on Food Systems at UN Headquarters in New York. The summit brings together farmers and fishermen, youth, heads of state, governments and many others in an effort to transform the sector and put the world back on track to meet all of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Goals include ending poverty, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns that limit waste. “War on our planet must end and food systems can help us build peace,” Guterres said. “It takes sustainable consumption and production methods and nature-based solutions. It takes smart and sustainable management of natural resources, from farms to fisheries,” Guterres added.
