According to an annual survey, Germans are more concerned about Donald Trump’s policies than they are about the coronavirus pandemic. According to the survey, respondents felt that the US president’s policies would make the world a more dangerous place.
An annual survey titled “Fears of the Germans” found that 53% of respondents put the U.S. president at the top of their list of concerns. The poll did not provide details on what aspects of Trump’s policies worried Germans.
According to political scientist Manfred Schmidt of Ruprecht-Karls University in Heidelberg, Germans are concerned about Trump’s foreign policy.
“Particularly noteworthy are the trade war-like conflicts with China as well as trade and security policy attacks against allies, including Germany,” he said. In addition, the United States’ withdrawal from international cooperation and its confrontation with Iran are cause for concern, Schmidt said.
The survey, conducted in June and July, found that the rising cost of living and the economic situation ranked second and third for traditionally cautious Germans.
The coronavirus that has ravaged Germany has affected Germans much less than Trump’s policies. Only about one-third of respondents said they were concerned that they or someone they knew well might contract COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
