The Israeli army has demolished 53 Palestinian homes in the West Bank city of Al Quds (Jerusalem) since the beginning of December under the pretext of illegal construction and lack of permits.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement on Saturday that as a result of these demolitions, 67 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes and another 860 people have suffered damage.
Some Palestinian, international and even Israeli institutions have stated that Tel Aviv has intentionally reduced the number of building permits for Palestinians living in Al Quds and the West Bank.
The European Union (EU) has warned that 200 Palestinian families living in Jerusalem risk being forced to vacate their homes so that settlements for Israelis can be built there.
Under UN Security Council Resolution 2334, Israeli settlement activity is illegal. However, the Israeli regime seeks to change the geographic structure of the Palestinian territories by demolishing Palestinian homes and building settlements, and to create “new facts” in these areas in order to consolidate its hegemony.
