Lebanon’s Defense Minister, citing the intensification of the Zionist regime’s air movements in Lebanese airspace, has demanded that the United Nations take swift action to stop the Israeli crackdown.
According to a report by Lebanese news site Elnashra, Lebanese Defense Minister Zeina Akar said in Beirut on Tuesday that Lebanon has witnessed numerous flights of Israeli warplanes as well as reconnaissance and spy planes since the beginning of last week, which took place at low altitudes, which is an obvious violation of Lebanese air sovereignty. This frightens and scares the Lebanese.
Moreover, the Israeli actions will prevent the UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) from avoiding tensions and creating a secure atmosphere in southern Lebanon, Akar added. The Lebanese defense minister described the Israeli action in Lebanese airspace as a violation of Lebanese sovereignty and breach of Resolution 1701.
She called on the United Nations to intervene immediately and prevent the situation from continuing. Likewise, it called on the UN to admonish Israel to comply with Resolution 1701.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Tuesday asked the Lebanese foreign minister to immediately write a letter to the UN Security Council, urging it to condemn the Israeli regime’s repeated violations of Lebanese airspace. In recent days, Israeli warplanes have repeatedly violated Lebanese airspace.
Resolution 1701 was adopted by the UN Security Council on August 6, 2006, to end the war between the Israeli regime and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The resolution stressed the need to respect Lebanon’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. The Israeli regime has repeatedly violated Lebanese sovereignty in defiance of this resolution.
