Immediately after the announcement, Hatice Cengiz, the girlfriend of the journalist murdered in October 2018 inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, announced that she will appeal the transfer. “Here we are not ruled by a family, like in Saudi Arabia. We have a judicial system that responds to citizens’ grievances: as such, we will appeal,” she told reporters as she left the Istanbul court.
