BEIJING–Chinese Foreign Minister believes Washington is planning to provoke and play the “Taiwan card” and the “South China Sea card.”
The U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy is essentially designed to foment confrontation and undermine peace, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday at a press conference after a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto .
U.S. says it needs a new model of economic interaction in the Indo-Pacific region
“The facts will show that the so-called ‘Indo-Pacific strategy’ essentially serves to create division. It is a strategy to foment confrontation and undermine peace,” Wang said.
“The people of the region must tell the U.S. that the Cold War script, now obsolete, must not be repeated in Asia and that the unrest and war that is taking place in the world must not be encouraged to occur in the region,” he added.
The foreign minister also stressed that the U.S. strategy is focused on “changing the environment of the Chinese neighborhood” and aims to “encircle China and make the Asia-Pacific countries act as ‘pawns’ of U.S. hegemony.”
