The Canadian parliament on Monday agreed to put the us group “Proud Boys” on the terrorist list.
According to an AFP report, the Canadian parliament has demanded that Justin Trudeau’s government officially add the far-right U.S. group “Proud Boys” to the terrorist list.
The “Proud Boys” are one of the far-right groups in the U.S. involved in the January 6, 2020 attack on the Capitol by supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump. During the riots and occupation of the Congress by Trump supporters, 5 people were killed and several others were injured. The U.S. House of Representatives again initiated impeachment proceedings against Trump, citing his role in “inciting the riot.”
Enrique Tarrio, the leader of the “Proud Boys,” was arrested in Washington on Jan. 5, before the run on the Capitol, on charges of destroying public property, which referred to the burning of a “Black Lives Matter” banner taken from a church, and possession of firearm magazines.
The Canadian Parliament’s action is a symbolic step, but with the Canadian government monitoring the “Proud Boys,” this action by Parliament may speed up the process of adding them to the terrorist list.
The Canadian Parliament has called on the government to “use all available means to prevent the spread of white supremacist (white supremacist thought) and hate groups.”
