Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign has paid more than $2.7 million to individuals and companies that organized the Jan. 6 rally that led to rioters storming the Capitol.
This was reported by the Bloomberg news network on Friday. The payments show an ongoing financial relationship between the rally’s organizers and political operatives of Trump’s campaign, according to the report. They were all made through Nov. 23, the latest date covered by Federal Election Commission records, before the rally was publicly announced.
Maggie Mulvaney, the niece of Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s former chief of staff, reportedly received $138,000 from the staff through Nov. 23, according to the filing
Also, Megan Powers, who is listed as one of two leaders in the authorization, received $290,000 from the Trump campaign from February 2019 through the most recent filing period. She served as director of operations on Trump’s campaign.
The largest recipient of campaign funds, according to the report, was Event Strategies Inc. which received more than $1.7 million from Trump’s campaign and joint fundraising committee.
