As the first visit of the Israeli Minister of Military Affairs to Morocco approaches, anti-normalizationists have called for a day of anger.
Moroccans who oppose the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv have called for the organization of a protest demonstration, tomorrow Wednesday, simultaneously with the visit to Morocco of Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Benny Gantz.
The Moroccan Front for the Support of Palestine and the Struggle against Normalization has called on all Moroccans to take part in a protest rally to be held on Wednesday, November 24, in front of the Parliament in Rabat.
Benny Gantz will arrive in Morocco this Tuesday evening to discuss with Moroccan officials a range of issues including the development of security cooperation between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
The Moroccan Front for the Support of Palestine and the Struggle against Normalization has called on all pro-Palestinian NGOs, activists and citizens to take part in the protest rally scheduled for Wednesday in front of the Parliament to express their anger against the visit of the “Butcher of Gaza” to Morocco.
In the aftermath, social network users shared the hashtag “no to hosting Zionist terrorism”.
Al-Tayyeb Madhmadh, coordinator of the Moroccan Front for the Support of Palestine and the Fight against Normalization, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the rally was in full compliance with the national position of Moroccans who oppose the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
After the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan, Morocco was the fourth country to normalize its relations with the Israeli regime, under the aegis of the United States.
In addition, the plan to set up an Israeli military base less than 200 kilometers from the Algerian border and less than ten kilometers from Melilla, the Spanish enclave in northern Morocco, has caused a real outcry in Spain and Algeria.
This information was revealed on November 16 by the generalist digital daily El Español. Rabat is secretly preparing with Tel Aviv the construction of a military base near the city of Melilia, in the region of Nador, less than 200 kilometers from the Algerian borders.
According to the same source, one of the areas in which this joint military air base is being installed is the desert town of Afsó, near the airport of Monte Arruit, south of the autonomous city of Melillia.
This project of a military base envisaged between Morocco and Israel “exceeds the Abraham agreements that Morocco also signed with the United States in October 2020,” said a source of foreign intelligence, consulted by the Spanish media.
This information comes a few days before the first visit of Benny Gantz to Morocco, which is expected to take place on November 24 and 25.
During this official trip, Gantz is expected to commit to providing Morocco with the advanced Iron Dome air defense system, currently manufactured for the United States.
“Israel and Morocco are already working on a project that will lead Rabat to manufacture military drones. In this context, it is expected that next week, during the visit of Gantz, new agreements will be signed to develop in Morocco an industry related to the production of marauding ammunition, also known as kamikaze drones, “said in this regard the same source.
“The agreement of understanding to explore investment opportunities that will be signed by officials from both countries, during the meeting scheduled for next week in Rabat, also includes the construction of a joint military base south of Melilla, according to the aforementioned Spanish source,” Info Defensa further explained.
The same Spanish media quoted a “foreign intelligence” source who considers that the planned alliance with Israel “goes beyond the Abraham agreements that [Morocco] also signed with the United States in October 2020,” and that it has been defined as “the roadmap in defense” that will link the two countries until 2030.
“In recent years, Rabat has engaged in a process of renewal and especially modernization of the material and equipment of its Royal Armed Forces, whose main suppliers are France and the United States, to which is now added to Israel, as part of the resumption of relations between the two countries almost a year ago.” said the same media specialist who reveals the ins and outs of a new strategy for Morocco to establish a major axis with Tel Aviv as part of the construction of a regional strike force that could inevitably change the balance of power and disturb the established order in North Africa and southern Europe.
This new configuration has aroused the concerns of the Spanish authorities who look with a very bad eye this deepened military rapprochement between Rabat and Tel Aviv. A rapprochement that could easily jeopardize the security of Melilla and Spanish interests in the region. And Algeria shares these concerns, confirmed to Algeria Part several diplomatic and military sources well introduced in the spheres of Algerian power.
Algeria is very apprehensive about the installation of this future Israeli military base less than 200 kilometers from the city of Maghnia, in the far west of the country. This massive Israeli military deployment in Morocco is experienced as a direct and frontal “act of aggression” against the national security in Algeria, according to our sources according to which nothing is absolutely “fortuitous” in these advanced military partnerships between Rabat and Tel Aviv. In-depth contacts have been established in the last 48 hours between Algiers and Madrid to formulate official protests against the installation of this Israeli military base in the region of Nador in northern Morocco. Protests that will be made to several international bodies and international partners active in the framework of military and security cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In addition, Algiers does not rule out the possibility of proposing to Spain a “strengthening of military and security assistance” to thwart what our sources describe as “hegemonic impulses” Israeli and Moroccan in the region.
