WASHINGTON – A new Pentagon report reveals that attacks by militants in Africa have increased …
by 300 percent over the past ten years.
The September report by the Pentagon’s Africa Center for Strategic Studies showed that the Western Sahel region and Somalia were the militant hotspots where most of the attacks had been carried out.
The report added that about 95 percent of the increase in militant attacks was perpetrated by Daesh-affiliated extremist groups and al-Qaeda militants, such as al-Shabab.
“The record of 2,221 violent events reported is a 45% increase over the 3-year average from 2018 to 2020,” the report said.
